Free Introductory Lessons

Our free* lesson at AustGrade, at this level we work on the basic skills of your children, developing their confidence and awareness when interacting with the water. This lesson focuses on parent-child bonding and water familiarisation. *Terms and Conditions apply

TheΒ BluebottleΒ level is an integral level where we work on your child’s development, as well as social skills and emotional regulation. We work on building confidence in the water including acceptance of water and their body in relation to the environment through interactive use of toys, games and instructor direction.

12 MONTHS – 2 YEARS
Max: 8 students

Our Box JellyΒ level can be started as early as 10 months old, if your child has had previous experience in the water environment your child will work towards independence in the water and submersion, as well as paddling and kicking feet at the same time. During this level we also introduce water safety skills, including holding on to the side walls of the pool and full body submersion.

2 YEARS – 3 YEARS
Max: 8 students

IrukandjiΒ is our master baby level! Here we work on separation of the children and parents, working on strategies to develop their readiness for partaking in classes without their parents. Here our students are super confident in the water, they already have a social awareness of how to interact in the pool. Children must be able to paddle and kick on cue and can start climbing out of the pool with little support from their parents.

As children develop their motor skills, we hone our classes on their skill development. These classes ensure a sound foundation for further learning.

Max: 3 students

In ourΒ YabbyΒ level this class is designed for those students that have not had lessons before or are uncomfortable without their parents in the water. Some Irukandji students may be moved to this level from 2.5 years old if they are progressing fast.

+ 3 YEARS OLD
Max: 3 students

OurΒ PlatypusΒ level is for independent beginner swimmers, learning the foundations of swimming skills. Children at this level are now comfortable without parents in the water and are ready to work on water safety and motor skills. This is first class without parents for beginners. We focus on developing children’s comfort in the water and confidence in building basic swimming techniques.

SKILL BASED
Max: 4 students

TheΒ Water DragonΒ level is for children who have a strong skill base in order to begin focusing on the body alignment and stroke for freestyle and backstroke. In this level your child will achieve basic knowledge of accurate kick strength and correct arm positioning.

OurΒ Fairy PenguinΒ level is an introduction to proper stroke development, with a strong focus on correct freestyle breathing (side breath), and proper position during backstroke kick.

Stroke Development

With a strong base supporting your child, the stroke development levels provide a more targeted approach to student development.

Students in the Dugong level should have a confident kick, and can use a kickboard, these students should have a more developed knowledge of correct freestyle arms and breathing. Throughout this level children work on developing the correct freestyle timing and are improving backstroke arms and position.

In ourΒ Leopard SealΒ level students are beginning to work on their stamina. Having a a good freestyle position already, they will start working on the timing of their backstroke arms and developing breaststroke kick. These students will work on swimming 20m without stopping.

Lane Allocation

Students in ourΒ  BottlenoseΒ level should have a good backstroke timing and freestyle with bilateral side breathing. In this level students continue to develop their breaststroke kick and start to work on their arms, with an introduction to proper butterfly kick.

OurΒ Eagle RayΒ level is the final level of stroke correction before our Achievers mini-squad levels. In this level they will develop proper breaststroke technique and be introduced to proper butterfly arms.
